getting up 2

Thursday, July 17

Well I have been checking out the Lonely Planet Thorn Tree postings today to get an idea about my planned holiday at the end of the year. I want to go from Gibraltar on the ferry over to Morocco down through Mauretania to Senegal then to Mali and finishing up in Ghana. Never mind that I am skint (this is a permanent affliction). I managed to drag myself around last year and am determined to do it again. I am not sure what to do about flights though but I think I will get one there and not bother pre-booking as it will more flexible.

This is what one poster had to say about one of my semi planned routes:
"On the other hand if you go through Morocco and Mauretania to Senegal, check it carefully before departure because even if the military escort convoy from Dakhla(Morocco) to Nouadhibou(Mauretania)is not yet compulsory for all travellers, and you can travel alone but keep in mind that West Sahara is a mined territory and attacks between Polisario guerrilla and Moroccan army attacks are everyday but are not unusual."

I don't know if I'll tell my mum about the mines.
