getting up 2

Tuesday, November 18

I first came to England in October 1999. That was such a long time ago. I remember first setting sight on London and thinking it was the third world. I felt awfully smug about being Australian.

Maybe because I'm not living there at the moment and am starting to think about going home I am not feeling so smug any more. Things just don't seem as good as they used to. What with the end to bulk billing, waiting lists targets at hospitals, funding cuts and HECS increases at a tertiary level (and god knows whats happening in the education system as a whole).

Now you know who I blame for all this. And I know I'm not the only one.
